System Dm is a new range of unitary and modular end mills which is being shown in the UK for the first time by Horn Cutting Tools Ltd., Ringwood at MACH 2008.
Cutters with diameters from 16 mm to 32 mm are available, all of which use a triple-edged carbide insert.
The range is designed to offer a high level of flexibility. As well as solid cutter bodies a corresponding range of screw-in ‘modular’ cutter heads is available.
These are designed for use with a range of parallel and tapered shanks. Further permutations are provided by a series of tapered adapters that allow modular cutter bodies to be used with larger diameter shanks.
Cutters and cutter bodies are available for swept diameters of 16, 20, 25 and 32 mm with 2, 3, 4 and 5 cutting edges respectively.
These offer maximum depth of cut of 3.0 mm using a DA31 insert. In addition, cutters and cutter bodies capable of accommodating a larger DA32 insert providing 4.8 mm depth of cut are available in diameters of 20, 25 and 32 mm with 2, 3 and 3 cutting edges.
All cutter bodies are designed for use with a screw clamped DA-series hexagonal insert which provides three indexable cutting edges. Each insert is available with a variety of radii at the cutting edge. Standard carbide grade is Horn Type TA45.
