University of Manchester confirms quality of Manufacturing Institute’s programmes
Following a review by The University of Manchester, the quality assurance agreement for the Diploma/Certificate programmes offered by The Manufacturing Institute (TMI) has again been renewed by the University for the next five years.
Recruiting for the intake onto the 2011 Diploma in Manufacturing and Certificate in Manufacturing Management programme is now going ahead apace for January next year.
The Manufacturing Institute’s Certificate in Manufacturing Management programme, itself the first year of The Manufacturing Institute’s Diploma Programme, is a pathway into higher education linked into a number of prestigious Masters Degree programmes.
The second year of the Diploma programme is available as a Certificate in Manufacturing Operations. The Diploma/Certificates have already helped over 350 participants from 185 companies develop practical skills they were able to immediately apply at work.
Darren Mitcheson, Operations Director at Aircelle, the Lancashire-based aerospace component manufacturer, was the first company employee to graduate with The Manufacturing Institute’s Diploma in Manufacturing Management.
He said; “There is no doubt that the key to running a business successfully is the application of the basic principles of productivity and efficiency.
Our industry remains one where vital work is carried out manually, so person hours, as one of our biggest expenses, must be managed efficiently.
“My studies resulted in being able to initiate a 12 per cent productivity improvement in the workplace, increased labour productivity, reduced shift numbers, waste reduction and a 100 per cent adherence to our delivery schedules. And the Diploma has not just been about learning.
It has engendered interaction between people, and I have been able to network with others and gain a valuable experiential insight into manufacturing in other industry sectors.”
