ER Collets Increase Carbide Cutter Tool life by up to 150%
Available in the UK from D & J Workholding, the Fahrion DIN 6499 GER-form B range of collets in sizes ER11 through to ER40 is now supplied with 5µm accuracy and repeatability as standard, and at standard ER prices. Also, the Fahrion GER-form HP ultra precision range now features 2µm accuracy and repeatability in sizes ER11 through to ER40.
"Compare this to the competition that offers, at best, 10µm accuracy as standard and 5µm as ultra precision," says Dave Chambers, director at D & J Workholding. "It simply isn't our policy to offer inflated prices with massive discounts - we supply accuracy at realistic prices."
Fahrion is continually striving to improve and promote high quality low cost mechanical clamping equipment. With patented innovations and attention to detail Fahrion continually improves its collet technology and says it is more than happy to pitch its products against the more expensive options on the market, such as heat shrink and hydraulic clamping equipment.
Longer tool life is a result of increased rigidity and clamping forces, improved grip, and higher precision and system accuracy. The company states that by selecting the correct tool clamping equipment, the working life of carbide cutting tools can be increased by up to 150 per cent, providing a ROI in a matter of months.
On all Fahrion ER collets, the slots are deburred and rounded, which is a prerequisite to protect the collet closing taper from marking. The process is also important to guarantee a consistent, repeatable high accuracy. Additionally, the operating surfaces are super finished to less than 1.6µm RA reducing friction and increasing clamping forces further for improved grip.
The company recently launched its precision collet chuck Centro-P, which offers system accuracy down to 3µm TIR at a distance of 3 x D from the collet face, offering the ability to meet tighter production tolerances, with improved surface finish and reduced cycle times.
