The Japanese conglomerate acquires Unimerco Group A/S and all associated companies as of 11 July 2011. Unimerco will continue all activities as an independent unit in the Kyocera Group, and management as well as all employees will continue in the new company. For Unimerco, the change of ownership leads to a larger product range and more employees. Name change to Kyocera Unimerco Unimerco Group A/S is sold to ‘Kyocera Fineceramics GmbH’, Esslingen, Germany, which is the European part of the Japanese Kyocera group. The sale means that Unimerco changes its name to ‘Kyocera Unimerco’. The company continues as an independent global corporation in the Kyocera Group. Main reason for the sales decision is ‘globalisation’ ‘The reason why we have decided to sell now is above all that we would like to speed up our globalisation. Our major international customers require our presence in more and more geographical locations, and we do not have sufficient management capacity for multiple establishments at the same time. Furthermore, we do not have an established customer base everywhere, which can justify the large investments from the beginning. Kyocera can bring us that. Finally, for my own part, we have to face a generational change within two or three years’, says Kenneth Iversen, CEO. Management and employees The whole management group, headed by Group CEO Kenneth Iversen, will continue all of Unimerco’s activities and product groups in Kyocera Unimerco. However, the organisation will soon have a Japanese ‘touch’ in the production and finance functions, and a Japanese vice president will be working at the headquarters in Sunds. Kyocera’s acquisition of the Unimerco Group is expected to lead to higher growth and an expansion of staff in all Kyocera Unimerco companies, and it is a clear goal to continue and expand cooperation with all customers and suppliers. A great match – product-wise and geographically In terms of products as well as geographical locations, the two corporations complement each other in the best possible way. Kyocera’s tool group is a world leader in indexable inserts for the metal industry, while Unimerco is among the world’s most important players on customised tools (carbide and PCD) and regrinding (Re-New), and the company also has a large trade program in solid carbide tools. Geographically, Kyocera is strong in especially Japan, South Korea, Asia and Southern Europe, while Unimerco has built a strong position in particularly Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Both groups are well represented in the USA, and with the establishment of a production company in China, Unimerco has strengthened its position in the important Asian growth market during recent years. Similar business philosophies and human attitudes Key elements of the philosophies of both Kyocera and Unimerco are putting customers and employees first. In relation to customers through the right products, high quality, service and reliability. In relation to employees through motivation, development, security and good human values and high morals. All activities are continued and strengthened Both the acquirer and the seller have the same clear goals: to continue global expansion, to strengthen development, and to aim even higher in terms of being the customers’ total supplier and service partner. Kyocera Unimerco has a clear goal of continuing to develop within all customer segments: the metal and woodworking/furniture industries as well as the food, plastic and graphic industries. Furthermore, the internationalisation of activities targeting the building and construction industry will continue. Cutting tools and measuring tools As part of Kyocera’s tooling division, Unimerco Tooling - selling, manufacturing and servicing cutting tools and measuring tools - will be in a much better position to intensify the growth which Unimerco is currently experiencing in this field. For example, the product range will be expanded with a number of Kyocera’s tooling products. Already today, the program of indexable tools is part of Unimerco’s product range. Fastening tools The acquisition also means that Kyocera enters a new area of business. The Japanese conglomerate has great expectations towards Unimerco’s other major activity, the Unimerco Fastening companies selling nailers, nails and compressors under the TJEP brand. This part of the company is growing |
