CNCROTARY.COM of Staveley are specialists in supplying, manufacturing and the remanufacturing of indexing and rotary table equipment. Their expertise has been honed by their customers, with many requests for special one off indexing, rotating and tilting solutions along with the conventional products.
CNCROTARY have the experience, skill and design technology to provide the ultimate solution, using up to the minute design technology such as 3D and FEA.
Dave Helley, Sales Engineer, said, "We are always looking for better and easier ways to test and inspect our rotary equipment but we also need something that we could take on site to the customer for the setting up of our equipment, the FARO Gage-PLUS gives us the accuracy of a traditional CMM but the portability of a hand tool. This gives us real measurement power that we can take anywhere.
The latest CNCROTARY.COM installation in conjunction with ZEATZ & FARO UK was undertaken at Barker Collins Limited who are an innovative specialist sub-contract machining company based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. In 2006, the company decided to invest in a highly accurate positioning method for the machining of the Cummins KV1 8 engine. Working together with the specialist rotary table manufacturer, they developed the device shown in the pictures. The rotary device had to be located onto Barker Collins existing Daewoo machine and then aligned using the FARO Gage-PLUS portable CMM.
This allows the engine block to be positioned very accurately and rigidly through the full range of multi-axis required positions and gives the Daewoo the ability to machine bores and faces by tilting the engine block accordingly and also allows the end faces to be machined by rotating the engine block through its full range of required indexing positions.
This special assembly will save Barker Collins many hours in the production of each engine by the automated positioning of the component block to the machine spindle against the original manufacturing process which incorporated the manual fixture changes that were required.
